Good Web Design

Too many Singapore web design get confused about what type of site they’re creating —
witness the site that was up for a long time . If you’re creating a site that’s
for a media company (movie, music, etc.), fashion company, art school sites where
there’s no accountability for the bottom line, then it’s OK to use “wild
and crazy” design techniques. But remember, “It’s a temporary thing.”
This type of design is not supposed to be serious and last forever. Have fun.

But if you want your website to look reasonable and is functional, devote your
energies to keyword rich content, site maps, privacy policies and the other
standards that seem to be missing from a lot of websites. The things that the
Search Engines like to see and will reward with higher rankings. A ‘crawler’
can’t see fancy flash gizmos or premium quality images over 100 kb each.

If you’re creating a real web site for a real company, you have to choose a
web design Singapore that’s not quite as exciting. Something more responsible and restrained.
Something dependable. Something you’d marry

It would have to be to keep it clean and simple. There is nothing worse than
a cluttered looking website and there is nothing that will repel visitors more
quickly than a slow loading website. Take a look at a few of the ‘TOP’ Internet
based company’s websites like Adobe.com. The largest image on their Home page
is 6 Kb. There is no Flash, no music. Even Microsoft.com has one small, unobtrusive
‘flash’ component in the bottom left corner and their largest image is 18 Kb.

Many private Internet users are using ’56kbps dial up modem’ connections (according
to research firm Instat-MDR). So, by building a website that is only accessible
in a reasonable amount of time to DSL users, you are effectively disqualifying
yourself from visits by 80 percent of the people likely to be interested in
your product or service. They will not wait.

The Number 1 rule that every web designer should follow is to create a fast
loading web site. You might have a great design but very few people are going
to see it if it takes a long time to load. While designing a web site always
think about how long it will take to load.

Minimize the use of images – Images do enhance a page but don’t make 80% of
your web site only images. Instead break it down as much as possible to simple
HTML. Very often simple designs are the best. For web design source files visit
my site http://www.davbindu.com/

Optimize images for the web – Once you have decided on the images that you
need on your site, make sure that it is optimized for the web. They should be
in the gif or jpeg format. You can also minimize the size of the image by choosing
the number of colors you need, from the color palette. The less the colors you
choose, the less the size of the image.

Use Tables creatively – You can get some great looking designs by using tables
creatively . Tables load very fast because it is just HTML code. Tables can
be used in the homepage, menus or anywhere you like.

Cut down the use of animated gifs – Animated gifs take a long time to load
and can also be very irritating. But since they catch your attention you could
use small animated gifs to draw a visitor’s attention to a particular section
of your Singapore web design.Or design simple icons icons that add a little color and draw the
attention of a visitor.

Use background images instead of big images whenever possible – Use background
images whenever possible. This is usually a very useful tip for headers and
footers. Instead of using an image of width 580 which is a uniform design you
can use just a part of that as a background fill. This reduces the size of the
web page as the image is small.

Try out CSS Styles – Have fun with CSS styles to get some cool text effects.
Again, a CSS Style is simple HTML code so it loads very fast. You can create
cool rollovers using CSS Styles.

Use Flash sparingly – There seems to be a lot of hype about Flash but I recommend
that you minimize the use of Flash on a site. Don’t make entire sites using
Flash. It may look great but it takes hours to load and can really put off visitors.
If you do want to use Flash use it within an HTML site and make sure it loads
fast.

Keep checking your load time – Last but not least, before you decide on the
final design of your web site, check its load time on NetMechanic. This site
gives you a free analysis of your web design company singapore which is extremely useful.

The Difference Between Web Design and Web App Design

With iPhones and other smart phones steadily taking over the big wired world,
the development of iPhone applications, or apps as they are affectionately called,
are the hot new things that all businesses are focussed on developing in order
to take their marketing campaigns to a whole new and infectious level. However,
as people all over the world catch on to the business of app design, it’s important
to differentiate application design from Singapore web design which can be a common
mistake.

To begin with, let’s take a look at what is meant by website design. The term
web design Singapore essentially refers to all the processes of creating the visual elements
of a website such as its graphics, layout and content. The process of web design
involves the provision of a complete outline for the visual appearance and mood
of the web page. Web page design can sometimes, but does not usually include
the creation of web codes. Rather, web design company singapore is concerned with devising and
presenting all of the content that will be visible to a visitor to the site.

To explain the differences between Singapore web design and web app design, it’s
necessary to understand what a web app is. Although an application relies on
the internet, it is not strictly speaking a website. Rather, it is an application
that utilises the technologies of web coding, such as HTML and JavaScript and
serves a role closer to a software program, except it can be run directly from
a website or downloaded and installed locally for use off-line. In it’s similarities
to software design, the process of web app design is more the domain of web
design and development combined. In contrast to web design, web development
refers to the processes entailed in the creation and compilation of web code
and the programming necessary for the website to have the appearance and functionality
intended by the web designer. Therefore, while Singapore web design determines with
the visible look and mood of the website, web app design is concerned with the
preparation of hidden display mechanisms and operational capacities.

Although these initial definitions may not seem too different, website design
differs to app design because applications differ to websites in several important
ways. Firstly, they are self-contained items, as opposed to websites that are
designed to encourage browsing across pages and following links.Web app design
is concerned with the integration of interactive user interfaces and advanced
device capabilities and technologies that web design does not touch on. Web
page design and websites in general are more orientated toward providing information,
whereas web app design prioritises the status of applications as an action-orientated
tool designed to serve a specific purpose.

Web Development Lifecycle (WDL)

The web development lifecycle (WDL) is a more specific variation on the general
framework for developing any application development project. Unlike general application
development, all web design and development projects follow a similar structure,
so the web development lifecycle / process can be drawn upon as a point of reference
for both the web development team and the client to determine the status of any
given project and the area of activity to address next.

The Web Development Lifecycle is made up of eight identifiable stages described
as follows:

1. Initial Consultation

The Initial Consultation seeks to understand the high level business requirements,
the scale of the web development, required delivery schedule, and the overall
feasibility, Singapore web design and cost of the project.

2. Project Specification

The business requirements of the proposed website are iteratively established
between the Client and the web design team, and documented in the form of a
High Level Requirements Specification. Focus here is on the relevant business
rules and outputs. Implementation of the system, how the requirements are actually
delivered, is reserved for later. Once agreed, this document will form the basis
of the subsequent stages of the Web Development Lifecycle.

3. Web Site Architecture

Here the software and hardware requirements for delivery of the web application
are established, such as the most appropriate web and application development
language, operating system, database management system (DBMS), and hardware
/ hosting environment that are most appropriate to support the final website
in a robust and reliable manner; taking account of the likely growth of data
volumes, visitor numbers web traffic, and functionality.

4. Web Site Design Cycle

Deliverables out of this phase have a particular focus on the web design Singapore of
the system, include mock-ups or prototypes of the screens that make up the system,
combined with system walkthroughs which will enable both the Client and the
software developers, designers and project management team to clearly understand
how the website will work from the user and administrators perspective. The
design of the CRM would also be full considered here also. This web application
functionality is considered in the context of the defined outputs and business
rules, and may result in the High Level Requirement Specification being updated
or changed. Following this, a key deliverable here is a Low Level Website Design
Specification / Document precisely defining the required implementation of the
web design and forming a blue print of the project for the software developers.

5. Content Collation

Any required textual and graphical content for the web application is developed
or acquired by the Client (or the software development company, depending on
the relevant situation). Admin functionality which enables the Client to amend
the full content of the site from system launch, and on an ongoing basis, is
assumed to have been included and defined within the High Level Requirements
Specification, as mentioned.

6. Web Site Project development

At this stage a detailed project plan will have been established for the implementation
of the web design company singapore, resources identified, time scales defined, and project dependencies
clearly understood – especially with respect to which parts of the web development
can be done in serial or parallel. This stage actually overlaps with the next
stage of the Web Development Lifecycle since all web developed modules are unit
tested to destruction by the corresponding web development team members. Further,
it is very important that all code produced by the software developers is quality
checked to ensure adherence to project development standards.

7. Testing & Quality Assurance

Many forms of testing are carried out during this phase, from system and volume
testing – in order to ensure that all components work together within the web
application and can easily cope with both the initial and anticipated future
demands on the system – all the way to User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and sign-off.
There are many forms of testing required during this phase that are beyond the
scope of this introduction, such as cross-browser and security testing – all
contributing towards the delivery of a high-quality Singapore web design and service to the
client.

8. Web Site Deployment (Launch)

Once the website implementation is tested and released by both the client and
software development company as being fully operational, the website is deployed
to the production environment and open to the relevant user base. Following
this there is generally a pre-agreed period of warranty and an ongoing support
agreement can be established at the discretion of the client.

The process can vary but, generally speaking, the dependencies and features
of a successful process of delivering webs applications to the client does not.
I hope this has been a useful introduction to the process of delivering quality
web applications to any business.

About Us: Time Critical Solutions (TeCS)

Time Critical Solutions (TCS) Ltd, aka “TeCS”, is an international
business company (IBC) incorporated in Cyprus (a full member of the European
Union). The company primarily serves wider-Europe, the Middle-East and Mediterranean
regions – but also has clients in many other parts of the world. The company
was originally incorporated in the UK in 1998 as Radiant Systems Ltd, which
operated as an IT consultancy boutique directly serving FT100 companies throughout
the United Kingdom. From around 2003 there was a significant growth in the demand
for IT services within small and medium sized companies who were realising the
opportunity that the web presented to their business, as well as the cost savings
that could be achieved through automation and streamlining of their operations.

The SME market for IT services continues to grow to this very day. However,
it is true to say that the quality of service being offered by the IT industry
to the SME varies widely, often with loose adherence to industry standards of
design, development, documentation, support, and general customer care. Unfortunately,
the industry continues to be sales, rather than service, orientated – and price,
rather than value sensitive – causing many SMEs to fall foul of poorly qualified,
inexperienced service providers.

In 2005 our reaction to this situation was to restructure our services as ETL
Motion Ltd, with a focus on providing the same high standards of service and
expertise to the SME as we would continue to offer to our large-company clients.
Today our philosophy remains the same, to offer consistently high levels of
service and delivery to all company clients however large or small. Time Critical
Solutions (TCS) Ltd, industry-standard technology solutions against the clock.
